A special announcement has been made on former Blackhawk Chris Chelios
A special announcement was made on the former Chicago Blackhawks' player Chris Chelios.
Massive news from Michigan about former Red Wings, Canadiens, and Blackhawks' Chris Chelios were confirmed recently.
A ceremony honoring Hockey Hall of Fame member and three-times Stanley Cup champions will go down on December 19th.
Chelios impact goes beyond Michigan's borders, as he brought success to the Montreal Canadiens and Chicago Blackhawks organizations as well.
During his career, the defenseman took part in 1651 games, the second-most for a defenseman in NHL history, scoring 948 points, including 185 goals. He added 144 points in 266 playoff games, registering the highest total of playoff games played in the NHL.
Despite arriving in Detroit at 37 years old, Chelios averaged over 21 minutes of ice time per game and consistently played in the top-four.
During the 2002 Stanley Cup run, he was still a key player on the blue line, averaging more than 26 minutes per game. Even in 2008, with reduced ice time, he contributed to the Wings' cup win.
Joining the 2025 class with Chelios are several other Michigan sports icons, including Rasheed Wallace, Claressa Shields, Jason Richardson, and Dave Dombrowski.
Chelios becomes the latest in a long line of Red Wings greats to be honored by the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame.
For fans who watched him defy age and expectations year after year, this recognition feels less like a surprise and more like a long-overdue salute to a true warrior of the game.
