A completed trade by the Chicago Blackhawks takes a major turn: NHL insider just confirmed it
Frank Seravalli confirmed that a completed trade involving the Chicago Blackhawks took a major turn.
According to Frank Seravalli, the Kraken have already placed Veleno on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a buyout.
It's a shocking development considering what they paid to get Veleno and how recently the trade happened.
The 25-year-old forward spent last season in Detroit and Chicago, tallying 17 points in 74 games. The Hawks had only just acquired him back in March in the deal that sent
Petr Mrazek and
Craig Smith to Detroit. Less than four months later, after moving to Seattle, he's now on waivers, headed for a buyout.
Veleno is now expected to enter free agency on Tuesday and will be available to join any team that wants to bet on him.
He could end up playing a significant role on a competitive team's bottom six.
Considering the high demand for centers across the league, it wouldn't be surprising to see a team offer him a contract on July 1st.
Now, it'll be interesting to see how the general manager surrounds them with experienced veteran leaders to help their development. With free agency looming and the trade market very active, the Hawks will be a team to follow closely.
Stay tuned for updates on the Blackhawks as well as Joe Veleno's contractual situation.
