A completed trade between the Canadiens and Blackhawks takes a turn: A player is missing
It appears the trade between the Chicago Blackhawks and Montreal Canadiens has resulted in a fleece of Kent Hughes, as Kirby Dach continues to prove to be an issue for the original-six team.
Dach would miss the Captain's led practices and has us all pondering what is going on. Dach has been out of the lineup consistently due to multiple injuries and hasn't been a significant member of the Habs since he arrived.
According to NHL Insider Maxime Truman, this is troubling news as Dach remains the only player who's been absent at these Suzuki-led training sessions.
"Quite all the Canadiens players - who were already there before the summer of 2025 - were at Nick Suzuki's wedding last weekend.
And we need more than two hands to count the team's players who have skated in Brossard in recent weeks.
Except there's one name we haven't seen wandering around much in recent weeks: Kirby Dach. "
Dach was originally acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks on July 7th, 2022, for a 1st-round and 2nd-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. The Blackhawks would acquire
Frank Nazar (13th OA in 2022) and
Gavin Hayes (66th OA in 2022) for Dach.
Nazar is already playing in the NHL, while Dach has been injured the majority of his career in Montreal.
Unfortunately for Kent Hughes, he took an unproven player who had trouble adjusting to the NHL ice and has instead found himself injury-prone later in his career.
Dach's career high came in 2022-23, with 38 points (14-24), and he hasn't been able to produce at that clip since.
As a former 1st-round pick, 3rd overall in 2019, it's easy to say he may be a bust unless he can stay healthy.
