A trade has been completed between the Vancouver Canucks and Pittsburgh Penguins involving the 12th overall draft selection, and it changes things for the Chicago Blackhawks.

"Rangers have officialy decided on sending the 12th overall pick in Friday's draft to Pittsburgh (the conditional 1st originally traded to Van for JT Miller, then flipped to Pitt by Van). Part of the thinking in keeping next year's 1st Rd pick instead is that it might be a trade chip next season at the deadline if Rangers bounce back and contend."

- Pierre LeBrun

How it will impact the Chicago Blackhawks

The Blackhawks have been reported to be in talks to move up in the first round from their second selection in round one that is 25th overall, but now they must turn their focus to the Penguins who have just completely altered their draft approach.
"This completely alters the Penguins' draft approach.

They now own picks 11 and 12; with a clear and documented desire to move up.

Now the second team to have back-to-back picks in the first round of the 2025 NHL Draft."

- Marco D'Amico
Their back-to-back choices could ultimately lead to them drafting one of Chicago's draft targets before general manager Kyle Davidson and the Blackhawks take the stage to announce their selection.
