Losing is one of the toughest processes a professional sports team can go through. While the occasional loss is more bearable when interspersed with a few wins, it allows teams to enhance their quality of play and hope to halt the losing streak.
It's an entirely different scenario when a team continually struggles to achieve the common goal of rebuilding a franchise from the ground up. This is precisely what the Blackhawks are experiencing as they enter their second season of this full rebuild.
Head coach Luke Richardson, a veteran defenseman for several NHL organizations during his career, despises losing. After enduring the first year of this rebuilding phase, he had hoped the team would make some progress and put in a better performance going forward.
Unfortunately, that doesn't appear to be the case, as the Blackhawks were shut out by the Boston Bruins with a score of 3-0.
Given the Blackhawks' ongoing rebuilding process and the numerous gaps across the entire roster, from forwards to defensemen and goaltending, it's impossible to ignore that this team is primed to endure many losses this season.
A trade is unlikely to magically fix this team since it's not designed that way. Richardson's only recourse is to continue conveying his message of hard work, emphasizing physical one-on-one battles and strong defensive play to teach the young players how to compete and win.
Additionally, he will need to rely on the veterans brought in, such as
Corey Perry and
Taylor Hall, to help the younger players understand the pitfalls and benefits of losing.
