Photo raises serious concerns for Washington Capitals Legend Alex Ovechkin
The Washington Capitals finished their NHL season, without making further than the 1st round in the NHL playoffs.
While we wait to see who lifts the Stanley Cup between, as the Stanley cup finals progress, with the Florida Panthers leading the series 3-0, there are more stories developing for those in the off-season.
Alex Ovechkin is back home in Russia, and on Friday a photo was posted on social media. The photo caused an uptick in comments, on the star player's appearance.
We don't make it a point to fat-shame, but it appears that Ovechkin has put on some extra weight during the off-season.
Ovechkin earlier in the month had an interview with the Russian outlet "That's Hockey Brother" According to a translation by RMNB he hates training during the off-season and loathes pre-season training as well.
«I hate preseason,» Ovechkin said. «I really hate it. I don't like to just train. This is the hardest thing. Imagine, you arrived after your vacation, you have a tan, everything is fine, you're happy. And your coach calls you and says, 'Well, Sash? Tomorrow we begin training.' You go to training, then rest, then another training session. I hate it, I can't stand it.»
And the results of that lack of practice of fitness, shows for Ovi in this picture.
According to his NHL profile, Ovechkin weighs 238 lbs, but there's no telling how much weight he gained in the photo above.
But he does mention, that training is still important in the interview and will train again with Pavel Burlachenko prior to his return to DC in the fall. The Capitals legend revealed he has changed his training philosophy, as he continues to age.
During the first 43 games of the season, Ovechkin seemed to be in a slump, only scoring eight goals. But would randomly go on a tear, scoring 23 goals post-NHL All-Star break.
Ovechkin has two years left on a deal he signed with the Washington Capitals, which he signed in 2021, and is believed to retire when it expires in after it expires. This season will be his 20th season in the NHL.
