By all indications, it looks like Toronto Maple Leafs pending UFA forward Mitch Marner is as good as gone from the only NHL team that he's played for.
He's reportedly not granted them any meeting with his representation on a new contract while also cancelling an annual charity event in Toronto, fueling additional speculation that he's on the verge of departing.
While Marner reached a new career-best 102 points (27G, 75A) this year, he came under criticism for having only a single assist in Toronto's final 4 postseason games against the divisional foe Florida Panthers.
In his most recent "32 Thoughts" podcast, NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman said that Marner may not have much time to wait around to make his decision.
What happens if a team Marner really likes says 'here's our offer on July 1st, and it's on the table until tomorrow, because we can't afford to wait for you to go through a process like this.
We have to know, because the answer is you're not coming, we have to race to plan B'.
