It's been reported today from Elliotte Friedman of the 32 thoughts podcast that the Toronto Maple Leafs are poised to hire Craig Berube as their next head coach.

After the Leafs press conference last Friday with Keith Pelley, Brendan Shanahan and Brad Treliving answering questions, the search began to find the next bench boss which had several candidates in mind. Berube, has been the front and centre candidate since the search began as many have felt he would be the coach that would move the needle with the Maple Leafs.
A former Maple Leaf himself who was involved in the biggest trade in Maple Leafs history when Doug Gilmour was acquired back in 1992 Berube will bring a pedigree as a players coach and will hold his stars accountable for any poor performance they may have.
Berube is widely respected across the league by many players and will give the Leafs bench a different look and style. Having won the cup with the St Louis Blues in 2019 certainly helped his case with Treliving.
The Maple Leafs have several major decisions to do this summer which included a new coach but with the message from Pelley that everything is on the table and that winning is the only thing that matters it's likely the Leafs will break up a portion of their Core 5 and change the dynamic of the team which has been long overdue.
It's been proven, that tying up over $50 million in cap space between five players is not a winning formula in the NHL.
