The Blackhawks are currently evaluating and preparing for the next stages of their offseason, an it appears one of their trade targets wants to leave his current organization.
Carolina Hurricanes center
Martin Necas has expressed a desire not to return to the organization after he has seen a decline in his production, and he also is at the end of his contract.
The 25-year-old was drafted by the Hurricanes in 2017, in the first-round 12th pick overall. After having his best season in 2022 dash 2023 playing all 82 games while scoring 28 goals with 43 assists for 71 points, his numbers dropped dramatically as he had 53 points through 77 games this year.
A player of his caliber would certainly help the Blackhawks as they would be looking for a second line centre or a top six winger that could help accommodate
Connor Bedard with point production. It appears that according to his father, Necas feels he deserves to be on the top line and in the first power play unit which would happen if he became a Blackhawk.
Necas Is completing a 2-year deal worth $6 million who is a restricted free agent who holds arbitration rights. With his age and the upside, he holds in his game, many teams including the Blackhawks will be calling the Hurricanes to see if they can strike a deal through a trade if he can't get a deal done with Hurricanes GM Don Waddell.
It remains to be seen on whether Davidson could pry Necas from the Hurricanes, but with their assets and draft capital they could offer Waddell a deal he can't refuse.
