The goaltenders for the Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers were playing mind games with one another prior to the start of Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final.
There's nothing like trying to play some mind games with your opponent before an all-important game in the Stanley Cup Final.
Goaltenders Calvin Pickard and Stuart Skinner of the Edmonton Oilers gathered close to the red line on their side of the ice during the pre-game warmup, while Panthers backup Vitek Vanecek appeared to try and get in Skinner's head.
Goalies in the NHL are known for their superstitious habits and doing whatever it takes to gain an edge mentally, and it looks as though Vanecek was doing just that against Florida's opponent, who they are taking on in the SCF for the 2nd straight year.
Whatever Vanecek did may have worked, as Skinner was pulled from the net for the second consecutive game after he allowed 3 goals in the 1st period against the Panthers.
Pickard would once again replace Skinner in goal, the 3rd time that's happened so far in the postseason.
And the Oilers would immediately begin making things difficult for the Panthers, as they scored three unanswered goals in the 2nd period to tie the game up at 3-3. Defenseman Jake Walman, picked up at the Trade Deadline, blasted a shot past Sergei Bobrovsky for the go-ahead goal.
It seemed as though the Oilers were certain of victory, but with Bobrovsky pulled in the waning seconds of regulation, Sam Reinhart scored to once again tie things up. Both teams are now heading for overtime, which will result in either a 3-1 stranglehold or a 2-2 series tie going back to Alberta.
