The Los Angeles Kings were disappointed by Mitch Marner's free agency choice and had to cancel a flight to meet with him when it became clear he wouldn't join them.

While the deal isn't official yet, the Toronto Maple Leafs signed forward Mitch Marner to an 8 year, $96 million deal and then traded him to the Vegas Golden Knights for Nicolas Roy, meaning they'll at least get some compensation for losing one of the top players in their recent team history.
There were multiple teams who were in on Marner, including the Florida Panthers, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, and Utah Mammoth. But another club that was interested in Marner is the Los Angeles Kings, who reportedly planned on flying representatives to meet with him to try and convince him to sign.
Per analyst Pierre LeBrun, the Kings were disappointed and were forced to cancel the reported scheduled meeting.
LeBrun on Insider Trading says Kings are probably one of the most disappointed teams when it comes to the Mitch Marner sign-and-trade, they learned they were on his shortlist and they were going to fly in and meet with him on July 1. Obviously that flight has been cancelled now.
Marner will soon officially be a member of the Golden Knights, and will have seen his tenure with the Maple Leafs come to a close.
He reached a new career-best of 102 points (27G, 75A) but faced criticism for having only a single assist in the final 4 postseason games in what was a series loss against the divisional foe Florida Panthers.
The Maple Leafs, on the other hand, have re-signed both John Tavares and Matthew Knies, and will be moving forward without Marner.
