Marc-Andre Fleury is officially back in the NHL
Former Chicago Blackhawks goalie Marc-Andre Fleury is back in the NHL, as he's signed a professional tryout agreement (PTO) with his old team, the Penguins.
Even though it looked like Marc-Andre Fleury's NHL career was over, he's apparently
changed his mind and is coming back for another round.
The former Chicago Blackhawks goalie has been signed to a professional tryout agreement (PTO) with the Pittsburgh Penguins, who took him 1st overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
Fleury will play parts of a pre-season game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on September 27.
The entire Penguins organization is honored to welcome Marc-Andre Fleury back to the ice in Pittsburgh. his past year, everyone witnessed how beloved and respected Marc is in the game of hockey, but the adoration goes beyond his accolades and career. Marc means so much to our team, our fans and the City of Pittsburgh because of the person he is and the example he set.
It looks like Fleury will only be playing this lone preseason game and may still intend on fully retiring from the NHL, but if this proves true, it will be a great way for him to wear Penguins colours one last time.
Fleury's 575 career wins are 2nd most by any goaltender in NHL history behind Martin Brodeur.
Marc-Andre Fleury briefly played for the Blackhawks
After winning the Vezina Trophy with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2021, Vegas stunned fans by trading Fleury to the Blackhawks, a deal he allegedly found out about on Twitter.
Fleury's time in Chicago was short, as he would be traded months later to the Minnesota Wild, where he played the next 3.5 years.
