Islanders prospect defenseman Kashawn Aitcheson, taken with the 17th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, has been slapped with a 3-game suspension because of an illegal check to the head.
The New York Islanders took prospect defenseman Kashawn Aitcheson with the 17th pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, and he's continuing his development with the OHL's Barrie Colts.
But he recently got into trouble with the OHL after delivering an illegal check to the head of an opponent during a game against the Owen Sound Attack and has been slapped with a 3-game suspension.
"Barrie's Kashawn Aitcheson suspended for three preseason games as a result of actions (Major, Check to the Head) on Sept. 1st vs. Owen Sound."
His scouting report from Elite Prospects notes that he loves to catch opponents with their heads down and wants to connect with hits as often as possible:
"Loving nothing more than seeing attackers approach with their head down, Aitcheson hunts big open ice hits, connecting those every chance he gets. Saying that he makes his presence felt would be underselling it. Like throwback defencemen, Aitcheson is also a spot defender in his zone, forcing attackers to take the long way around to find some space in the slot."
