Winnipeg Jets' playoff odds take a significant blow after a freak accident injury to their star forward
But an unfortunate scene during the game confirms that they took the ultimate loss overall, in what is described to be a 'freak accident' by the teams head coach.
«They just ran into each other. It was a tough play, especially to lose him in that situation,» Scott Arniel said. «It wasn't a blocked shot. It was a freak accident.»
Star forward
Nikolaj Ehlers appeared to have endured a serious injury when he got into a collision with an NHL official.
While attempting to receive a stretch pass, Ehlers turned to move up the ice with the puck and collided with linesman James Tobias.
The 29-year-old forward looked to be in serious pain, and it could be a disaster for the red-hot Winnipeg Jets team just days before the start of the 2025 NHL playoffs.
Ehlers would leave the ice and was unable to do so under his own power, needing to be dragged by teammates as he was unable to move one of his legs, and he grabbed at anything in reach to help gain support when he got to the bench.
This is just a terrible situation for Ehlers and his Winnipeg Jets, who have just two games remaining in the regular season before the start of the NHL playoffs on April 19th.
