Trade completed between the Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks involving a goaltender today in history
On this day, August 23rd, 1999, the Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks combined for a trade that sent the goalie Michel Larocque to the Original Six team in return for a draft pick.
The Chicago Blackhawks were busy in 1999. With fears of Y2K still months away( it was unfounded), the team had a reason to fear the stability of the net.
So the Blackhawks made a move to stabilize the crease and traded a draft pick, a 5th-rounder in 2000 (which became Michal Pinc), in return for Larocque.
Not to be confused with the goalie from the 80s nicknamed "Bunny," Larocque would play 3 games with the Blackhawks during the 2000-01 season.
Beforehand, he was seen playing in AHL action with the Norfolk Admirals, playing a total of 35 games, with a 2.76 GAA, a 13-17-4 record, and a .898 save percentage.
Larocque's short stint in a Blackhawks uniform was limited; he played only three games, with a 3.55 GAA and an .847 save percentage. His NHL future was done and over with as soon as that three-game run concluded.
For Michal Pinc, he'd never see ice in the NHL and would tour Europe playing in Czechia, logging minutes with the Idaho Steelheads and Long Beach Ice Dogs in the WCHL.
He'd move along to the UHL with the Muskegon Fury and Flint Generals before heading back to Europe.
A sign that trades don't always work out, and with fifth-rounders, you're not always sure to hit.
