The Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly interested in acquiring defenseman Connor Murphy from the Chicago Blackhawks, per the latest from analyst Jeremy Tingly.

The Chicago Blackhawks once again missed the playoffs and were near the bottom of the NHL standings this year, but the solace was that it resulted in another top-3 pick, which was used to take Swedish forward Anton Frondell in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
The Blackhawks have already made a significant trade this summer, acquiring Andre Burakovsky from the Seattle Kraken for Joe Veleno, but they could also soon make another move, this time with a former Original 6 foe.

Toronto Maple Leafs interested in acquiring Blackhawks' Connor Murphy

Per analyst Jeremy Tingly of NHL Trade Rumors, the Toronto Maple Leafs may be interested in acquiring defenseman Connor Murphy.
"Murphy is a right-handed defenceman who has been on trade lists for quite some time now. Murphy's entering the final season of his deal at $4.4 million AAV. The 32-year-old has a 10-team no-trade clause, so he'll have some say in the matter.

He's been linked to the Maple Leafs, Oilers, Senators, and Canadiens in the past, so we'll wait and see how things play out next season. Murphy scored 19 points in 68 games last season, and averaged 20:36 ice-time per game, including 2:17 shorthanded."
Murphy had 19 points (2G, 17A) in 69 games this year for Chicago.
The Maple Leafs were once again a top team during the regular season in 2024-25 but once again experienced a disappointing early loss in the postseason.
For the 2nd time in the last 3 years, they were knocked out of the ECQF by the divisional foe Florida Panthers, who would go on to win their 2nd Stanley Cup in a row.
The Maple Leafs have already made major changes in leadership since then, not bringing back team president Brendan Shanahan after over a decade on the job. They also traded Mitch Marner to the Vegas Golden Knights for Nick Roy as part of a major sign-and-trade move.
