Ranking the top 5 Chicago Blackhawks captains of all-time
The Chicago Blackhawks, being an Original Six team, have a rich history.
Six Stanley Cups, being a franchise throughout the first half of the 2010s, and having had their fair share of hall of famers run through that team.
As they have a lot of hall of famers, in-team wise, they've had a lot of good captains that led them to great things. So, let's look at the five best captains in Blackhawks history.
5. Darryl Sutter - Sutter had his career unfortunately cut short, as he only played 406 games with the Blackhawks from 1982 to 1987. However, when Sutter was on the ice, he was one of the best, as he had 279 points in 406 games in his tenure in Chicago.
4. Dirk Graham - Graham was in Chicago from the 1985 to 1997 seasons, and was captain for seven years of it. Graham led the Hawks to the playoffs every year, but failed to win the Cup, although, he made it to the finals in 1992, but lost.
3. Chris Chelios - Chelios has his number retired in the rafters for a reason; many see him as the best Blackhawk ever. The defenseman had 497 points in his time in the Windy City, and won two Cups with the Detroit Red Wings.
2. Stan Mikita - Mikita played hockey for 22 years. He spent all 22 with the Chicago Blackhawks. He, too, has his number retired, and many consider him to be the best Hawk, like Chellios. Although he was only the captain for two seasons, he had over 1,400 points in 1,396 games played with the Hawks.
1. Jonathan Toews - Toews is undoubtedly the best captain in Blackhawks history. He brought three Stanley Cups back to the city and spent his entire 16-year career as a Hawk. Toews played over 1,000 games in Chicago and had 883 points in his career. Unlike Mikita and Chelios, his jersey isn't retired - yet. He'll have his jersey up there in the next couple years, joining an elite list.
