Former Chicago Blackhawks player Patrick Kane revealed his plans for the future of his NHL career ahead of free agency.

Patrick Kane and the Detroit Red Wings failed to clinch a playoff spot once again this season, raising doubts about the future of his association with the organization.
Kane, who took part in his 1,300th NHL career game late in the season, has one goal in mind: get to 1,500, but is likely to keep signing one-year contracts until the end of his career.
Here's what he said about that in his end-of-season media availability:
"For me, I just played my 1,300th game, and I think it would be cool to, you know, play a few more years. I think it would be cool to get to 1,500. That's probably a goal I put in my mind. I think that's definitely possible, but with everything that's gone on, it's probably something that I just look at year after year and see where I'm at. But that would be a goal for me, to hopefully get to 1,500 games and play a few more years. I think that's possible for me."

"Last year, I felt like I sat up here and I was talking about security and maybe multi-year contracts, and then, you know, a month, couple weeks later, you think completely different. So, I think those are conversations that still need to be had with myself, my family, people closest to me, my agent and obviously with the organization, and figure all that out. But, you know, I thought this year, with my age and the one-year bonuses and kind of working that contract, I thought it worked well for both sides."

"I still love the game. It's my life. It's what I want to do, what I think about every day. Whether it's how I take care of my body, how I take care of myself, what I want to do this summer, how I want to train and what I want to look like on the ice next year. The game-to-game preparation, I love all that stuff and I'm not thinking about stopping anytime soon."
After confirming he wanted to remain active in the NHL, he revealed that he will take time to think before signing, but there's mutual interest to extend his journey with the Red Wings:
"I'll definitely take some time to think, but overall, I've really enjoyed my time here. I think it's been a great place for me to continue my career and play. There's a lot of great things about the organization that have helped me not only with my injury but find a good role within the team and play. I think there's definitely some mutual interest in coming back and continuing on here, so we'll see what happens."

Many teams would be interested in Kane if he were to become available on the free agent market, and the Red Wings will want to avoid a bidding war by signing him as soon as possible.
