Maple Leafs re-acquire former forward in intriguing trade pitch with the Chicago Blackhawks
In a recent proposed trade, the Toronto Maple Leafs re-acquire Ilya Mikheyev from the Chicago Blackhawks and give them a pair of forwards in return.
The Chicago Blackhawks may have already acquired former 2x Stanley Cup winner
Andre Burakovsky from the Seattle Kraken, but they could be in line for another multi-player trade.
Maple Leafs acquire:
Ilya Mikheyev
Blackhawks acquire:
Nick Robertson
Calle Jarnkrok
2027 fourth-round pick
Robertson was an RFA that the Maple Leafs recently re-signed to a new 1 year contract, while Jarnkrok has a year left on his current deal.
Mikheyev was one of Chicago's more consistent performers this year, reaching 34 points (20G, 14A) in 80 games. He also has another year left on his contract with an AAV (average annual value) of $4,750,000.
Both Jarnkrok and Robertson would give Chicago more forward depth along with cap flexibility, while Mikheyev would give the Leafs another weapon up front. He would also return to a familiar place, as he's already played for the Maple Leafs before in his career.
Can the Blackhawks get back to the playoffs this year?
Right now, the Blackhawks are being considered a longshot to come close to making the postseason, much less challenging for so much as a Wild Card spot.
It will be the 3rd year in the NHL career of
Connor Bedard, who will soon have a major decision to make about his future with the team.
Right now, it looks as though Bedard is content to wait out the long rebuilding process that Chicago is enduring before they can realistically start winning and competing again.
