Insider Reveals How Close Kyle Davidson Was to Trading 3rd Overall Pick
Kyle Davidson came close to trading the 3rd overall pick in 2025, the pick would become Swedish tank Anton Frondell, but imagine he had traded it?
The
Chicago Blackhawks had another disappointing finish in 2024-25, at the bottom of the Central with a 25-46-11 record.
While Bedard would emerge out of his slump, the team itself wasn't its best self, and it showed on the ice.
The Blackhawks would qualify for another lottery pick this year and would get the #3 selection in 2025, now center
Anton Frondell.
Davidson would be interviewed about whether they'd consider moving the 3 OA pick on 670 The Score. The team had discussions about moving the pick, but felt none of the offers were serious and stuck to their guns by drafting Djurgardens' own,
Anton Frondell of the SHL.
Frondell has been a revelation for the Blackhawks as he could find himself in a 2C role in the Blackhawks system or a possible linemate for Bedard.
With comparisons to Sasha Barkov on the horizon already, he could be another game-changer that could set the groundwork for a Stanley Cup in the future, should these come to fruition.
Ultimately, Davidson made the right choice to keep the pick and draft Frondell, the buzz surrounding him has had Blackhawks fans hyped about his future with the team.
While trading for grizzled veterans is something some GMs would do, instead Davidson is letting the team grow organically, and accumulates top prospect after top prospect.
As someone who saw the Blackhawks grow into a dynasty in the 2010s, he already knew how to win, but the implementation is something he's working on to this day.
Could this hard work pay off much, much sooner than we hope?
