Former Chicago Blackhawk Hits All-Time Low Following NHL Waiver Placement
Former Chicago Blackhawks 3rd Round Draft pickAlec Regula's career hit an all-time low. He's been waived by the Boston Bruins.
Alec Regula was part of a trade package with Ian Mitchell, which sent both prospects to Boston in return for Nick Foligno, and Taylor Hall.
The former 3rd round draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks has found himself as a career minor-league player in the AHL. He hasn't seen NHL ice since 2022-2023 and played all of 2023-2024 with the P-Bruins scoring 26 points( 4 G, 22 A).
Regula (knee) was activated from the injured non-roster list Tuesday and subsequently placed on waivers, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
He was placed on injured reserve on October 7th, as he would start the 2024 season recovering from knee surgery.
Regula hasn't been able to crack the Boston Bruins lineup since his time in Boston and will be assigned to AHL Providence if he clears waivers.
This isn't surprising, as the defenseman has failed to seize opportunities in the NHL to make a name for himself.
He was highly touted by scouts and pundits, who applauded his defensive capabilities.
Yet he was unable to utilize them successfully, unlike his former London Knight teammate Evan Bouchard, with whom he was paired in the OHL.
Regula obviously possesses very good size. He is a very good skater with excellent acceleration. As the season progressed, he looked more comfortable in leading the rush. He is very capable of making an excellent pass to elude the forecheck, but he is also capable of skating the puck out of danger.
Regula can more then handle the tough defensive assignments. He thinks the game very well with great anticipation and plays a positionally sound game. His skating allows him to keep gaps close. He plays with a very active stick and knows how to close lanes. He's tough to beat one-on-one and rarely gets beat to the outside.
Regula has only 22 NHL Games to his name, with 1 point(1 A) and 16 PIMs during his short stint with the Chicago Blackhawks, and Boston Bruins.
