Former Blackhawks forwrad Philipp Kurashev, who signed with the San Jose Sharks as a free agent after not being tendered a qualifying contract offer, is revealing what went wrong for him during his time in Chicago.

The Chicago Blackhawks did not tender a qualifying offer to forward Philipp Kurashev, and he became a free agent.
He is now with the San Jose Sharks after signing a 1-year, $1.2 million contract. He joins the Sharks after having had just 14 points (7G, 7A) in 51 games with Chicago this year, which was his last with the Blackhawks.
Now that he's a member of the Sharks, he's speaking openly about what he felt went wrong, which included some physical ailments that hampered his training for 2024-25.
It was a lot of factors, of course. I was dealing with some stuff last summer that kind of set me back a little bit, physically. So it wasn't as easy to do my normal summer training and stuff like that. So it was kind of hard when you're kind of behind from the start of the season, started not so good, and then it kind of just snowballed. Never really climbed out of that hole. I'm just happy for a new opportunity, happy for a fresh start, and I'm going to make sure I'm coming in at my best.

He's also just a year removed from a career-high 54 points (18G, 36A), which he believes he can get back to while playing with the Sharks.
I was just doing a lot of the small things. Winning a lot of the battles, I was helping out, creating offense, I was also playing a lot of minutes, and had some power play time as well. Everything was clicking, and I was able to really show myself. It was definitely a good year for me, but also [there were] just a lot of things I learned from that and that I can take with me.

Kurashev, who was taken with the 120th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft by the Blackhawks, has 130 points (48G, 82A) in 317 NHL games.
