Christian Fischer, shockingly confirmed his retirement from the NHL at only 28 years of age.
On July 4, 2025, Fischer officially confirmed his retirement after completing nine seasons with the league, claiming it was time for a «new chapter» in his life.
He thanked those who he encountered along his NHL journey and expressed his gratitude to those who made his dream possible.
«I'm very thankful for all the people I've come across, and I'd tell you right now: I didn't get here on my own,» Fischer stated, per Max Bultman of The Athletic. «It makes me look back and just appreciate the whole journey, and it makes me very thankful for it all.»
Christian Fischer's NHL journey
28-year old, Christian Fischer, who born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, began his professional hockey career in the National Hockey League being selected the 32nd pick in the 2015 NHL Draft by the Arizona Coyotes.
He would make his NHL debut at only 19 years of age in the 2016/17 NHL season after getting his feet wet at the professional level with the AHL's Tucson Roadrunners.
He played six seasons with the Coyotes, then signed a one-year contract with Detroit, and would later earn a one-year extension for the 2024/25 season.
However, during his second campaign with the Red Wings, Fischer lacked productivity, as he only scored once while adding six assists in 45 games endured.
The 28-year old was designated a healthy scratch in 12 of Detroit's 26 games leading to the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline.
The forward was put on waivers soon after, on March 6, and was then claimed by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
During his time in Columbus, he played just one single game.
Fischer finished his NHL career with 62 goals, 75 assists, in a total of 523 career games.
