Connor Bedard's play for the Chicago Blackhawks this season has caused concern for one NHL Insider, JFresh Hockey, who tracks the numbers side of the game.
The Chicago Blackhawks should be concerned with superstar Connor Bedard,
who has won a Calder Trophy as the rookie MVP at the start of his NHL career.
He's played a total of 156 games in his NHL career, scoring 134 points (47-87). And while he's begun to produce early into the season with a total of 6 points (2-4) in 6 games, there is another story underneath that.
JFresh's Analytics Spells Trouble for Connor Bedard
Hockey Twitter personality Jfresh is a statistician who tracks players, and this time around, it was Bedard who was subject to the microscope.
The chart shows on-ice-shot attempts this season, and you can see Bedard is trending downwards, as he's terrible at shooting the puck this season.
The team's having trouble controlling the ice, as the Blackhawks have been outshot with Bedard and his line on the ice, despite a heavy hitter like
Colton Dach being stapled to the 1st line.
With a record of 2-2-1, the Blackhawks will have to improve this metric if they're to stay in games and pull out a victory.
Especially if Bedard
wants to make it to the playoffs. An improvement on the defensive side of the game is more than needed, and he, plus Dach and
Andre Burakovsky, will have to improve their 200-foot game.
