In a surprise announcement, the Calgary Flames have reported that they have hired former three-time Stanley Cup champion and Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook in a player development role.
While we don't have any exciting trades to report for the Chicago Blackhawks, their legendary players continue to make waves in the NHL.
Former three-time Stanley Cup champion
Brent Seabrook has taken on a job in the NHL with the Calgary Flames.
He'll be joining the team in a player development role, as he'll be helping the team develop successful players during their ongoing rebuild.
«We are pleased to welcome
Brent Seabrook to our development team,» said Flames General Manager Craig Conroy. «Our young players will benefit from his years of experience in the NHL and his championship pedigree.»
In an ironic turn of events, he'll be behind the scenes in the Battle of Alberta, against his old teammate, who has taken on the same role in Edmonton, Duncan Keith.
How the tables have turned.
We're not sure how often you watch hockey in the Pacific Division, but this should make for an entertaining storyline, seeing how Seabrook does compared to his former Blackhawks teammate.
Brent Seabrook has been making his way up the ranks through junior hockey, joining the Vancouver Giants in the WHL, and was part of Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence in 2024 for the U20 group.
Seabrook has won three-Stanley Cups in the NHL, and brings a dearth of experience that blueliners and players alike can learn from.
What a stellar hire by the Calgary Flames, it's a shame that Kyle Davidson couldn't have considered him for a job here.
