The
Chicago Blackhawks haven't been able to secure
David Carle or
Mike Sullivan as the next head coach of the team. The Blackhawks need someone who's familiar with developing talent in the game of hockey, and could look to Team Canada for an obvious selection.
That could end up being former Chicago Blackhawk and development coach for the WHL's Vancouver Giants,
Brent Seabrook.
Seabrook originally began his position as a volunteer developmental coach for the WHL's Vancouver Giants in 2023. What began as a four-hour drive from Kelowna every few weeks has been leveraged into something more.
Not only has he been helping to develop defensemen in the WHL, but he has earned a spot on Team Canada in 2025, as part of the IIHF WJC's 2025 National Team Management.
The 39-year-old has padded his resume with enough background in player development, and two years in 2024 and 2025 as part of the management for Team Canada in major international competition.
He could be a suitable candidate for the Blackhawks to revisit and see where he could fit the pieces together, and continue to build the Blackhawks into a winning team.
Not to mention, Seabrook had a hand in helping give the Blackhawks some of their top talent in a trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
So, the Cliff Notes: we can track back almost four years to the Seabrook trade with Tampa thru five subsequent trades to land at three of the top current Blackhawks prospects:
Oliver Moore,
Sacha Boisvert and
Marek Vanacker.
Seabrook finished his career with the Blackhawks, playing 1,114 NHL games, and scored 464 points (103 goals, 361 assists).
