The Chicago Blackhawks have taken Jason Dickinson off the trade block due to his recent injury, which is a change of plans for this seasons NHL trade deadline for the organization and GM Kyle Davidson.
The 29-year-old forward suffered from a high-ankle sprain in his game against the Edmonton Oilers, which will keep him out for several weeks, but not the worst of the injury.
Dickinson's teammates are already feeling his absence, as he is the Blackhawks best defensive forward this season.
"That's a guy you can't just replace." We feel the same way on our team, it's not just what he does on the ice, it's who he is as a person. The coach said about him, "He's the ultimate teammate, ultimate guy,"
Dickinson entered this year after a great 2023-24 season, which he produced 22 goals and 35 points to go with a two-year, $8.5 million contract.
As the Blackhawks go through their rebuilding stage with youth, his defensive game has been essential along with his role in it as a veteran.
The Blackhawks, who are gearing up to be sellers at the March 7th NHL trade deadline, considered trading him, per reports.
But his injury and the team's struggles on the defensive end has changed that.
Keeping Dickinson helps with stability and keeps a strong defensive presence which is something the Blackhawks need to build towards.
He's more than a body out there, he's a leader and a guy that young guys look up to in this transition period.
