With Arvid Soderblom's excellent 20242-25 season, he, Kyle Davidson, and the Chicago Blackhawks are headed to arbitration, and the once promising goalie could be traded, as Spencer Knight has solidified himself as the true number one goalie in Chicago.
The goalie market in the NHL this season has been relatively weak. Teams in the NHL who could use a solid backup like Arvid Soderblom, who looks to be primed for a sign-and-trade after going to arbitration with the Blackhawks.
Soderblom played beyond expectations this season with a terrible team in front of him. His 2024-25 season could be leveraged for the Blackhawks to utilize Soderblom in a different way: acquiring a roster player.
While
Drew Commesso isn't quite ready to make the jump into the NHL, Knight will be the starter from here on out.
If the team does sign him and put him on the market, they could get a decent return in value after arbitration.
NHL teams could be on the lookout for
Soderblom, who could find himself landing a 1-2 year deal after all is said and done, including the 31st place finish with a terrible defense in front of him.
Soderblom finished his 2024-25 with a 3.18 GAA and a .898 save percentage. Considering the fact that this is on the second-worst team in the league, and could improve significantly on contending teams in the NHL.
If Soderblom is traded, the options for the Blackhawks remain scant, other than what's available in Rockford, Commesso.
Could we see him traded again with another 8th-place finish in the Central, and a lottery pick finish in 2026?
