The Chicago Blackhawks have a chance to pick up a talented young forward who was placed on waivers by the Buffalo Sabres today at no additional cost to them.
There wasn't much activity on the
NHL waiver wire today, with only one player being placed on the waiver wire by his respective team.
The Buffalo Sabres placed forward
Carson Meyer, who hasn't played in a single game yet this year despite being on their roster, on waivers.
He started the season on Buffalo's non-rostered/injured list.
Earlier this summer, Meyer joined the Sabres by agreeing to a two year, two way contract with an NHL AAV (average annual value) of $775,000.
Carson Meyer Still Has Potential Despite Limited NHL Experience
Meyer was taken with the 179th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Blackhawks' divisional foe Columbus Blue Jackets after he played college hockey in the area for the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks and Ohio State Buckeyes.
After playing several years in the Blue Jackets organization, he decided to head west and signed a one-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks. They waived him, and after going unclaimed, he was assigned to their AHL affiliate, the San Diego Gulls.
In 41 NHL games, Meyer has six points (2G, 4A). His stats in the American Hockey League are better, as he's played in 201 career games and has 131 points (65G, 66 A).
If anything, Meyer could be a depth forward for the Blackhawks' AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs, and be available as a player with NHL experience if anyone on the current Blackhawks roster were to get hurt.
