Chicago Blackhawks facing major backlash for the mistreatment of veteran defenseman
Veteran defenseman TJ Brodie has found himself as a healthy scratch in the lineup since March 1st, and fans aren't happy about it.
Ben Pope reporter of the Chicago Sun-Times, has some troubling news regarding veteran defenseman TJ Brodie.
The defenseman has found himself in some trouble with the
Blackhawks organization as he's been a healthy scratch for the team since March 1st.
This has caused some backlash from his supporters, as the defenseman was thought to be a huge help in pushing the team forward in their rebuild.
But has he found a fair shake in the
Blackhawks organization? Unlikely.
Brodie has only played 54 games for the Blackhawks this season, and has been passed over for younger talent in the lineup. Which could give rise to more anger from fans for a wasted roster spot.
With news of a potential buyout for Brodie, it appears GM Kyle Davidson has not only wasted Brodie's time in Chicago, but the team's cap space.
Brodie makes $3.75 million AAV, and a buyout would cost the team $516K over the next two years, according to
PuckPedia.
The savings would also be $516K, but in the long haul the majority of the money has been spent on a player who obviously didn't fit the organization.
He's scored only 10 points (2 goals, 8 assists) playing mainly on the bottom-pair this season in Chicago.
This move should anger fans, as once again, another move by Kyle Davidson has fallen short of expectations by fans again.
The 34-year-old veteran was drafted 114th overall in 2008, and a buyout could see his value erode in free agency.
