MLB world Series Champion Tragically Passes Away After Freak Accident At Nightclub in Dominican Republic
Former Major League Baseball Star World Series Champion and Chicago White Sox pitcher Octavio Dotel has tragically passed away at the age of 51 following a nightclub incident in the Dominican Republic.
The sports world is mourning the loss of a former champion following a tragedy in the Dominican Republic, which saw a roof collapsing at a night club, leaving at least 44 people deceased and 144 injured.
Former MLB star Octavio Dotel, 51, was reportedly rescued from the rubble of the Jet Set Nightclub in Santa Domingo, but later passed away while being transported to a local hospital, according to
reports.
Dotel played for 13 teams over his career in the MLB that lasted from 1999 to 2013. He made his debut with the New York Mets in 1999, where he was then traded to the Astros, spending five years with Houston, becoming one of the top setup men.
He was also apart of the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers.
The pitcher and Bill Wagner alongside four other Astros made history in 2003 when they combined to no-hit the New York Yankees.
He would ultimately end up winning a World Series in 2011 with the St. Louis Cardinals, posting a 2.61 ERA with two wins over 12 playoff appearances that year.
Reports surfaced that he was rescued from the nightclub's roof-collapsing incident; however, Dotel's brother Angel confirmed the saddening news of his passing.
'They told us he was alive, but in reality he was dead since last night. It is not true that he died on the way... The blow hit him on the head and it seems that it broke his neck.'
Rest in peace, Octavio Dotel.
