Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Connor Murphy issues a statement
It was revealed yesterday from Blackhawks defenseman Connor Murphy that tickets are now on sale for the winter classic that will be held at Wrigley Field on New Year's Eve.
This will be the second time the winter classic will be played at Wrigley Field as the Blackhawks will took on the Detroit Red WIngs In 2009. That game produced over 40,000 fans in attendance and the Detroit Red Wings won that game 6-4.
The Winter Classic has become a fixture in the NHL schedule as many fans venture out into the cold and has well over 40,000 plus fans in each game. The average NHL rank is between 17 and 18,000 people and there are many festivities that go on at the NHL Winter Classic.
Many feel that the Blackhawks will be aggressive this offseason and with several draft picks in this year's entry draft plus a large amount of cap space, general manager Kyle Davidson will certainly be busy trying to fill holes in his lineup and improve the team's fortunes as many feel it's time for the team to move forward in its rebuild and start to show results.
If successful, it's likely the product on the ice will be far better this year especially for the winter classic with so many pairs of eyes watching the game compared to normal in the United Center.
The winter classic will be held on December 31st and will be held at 3:00 PM eastern.
