The Chicago Blackhawks host the Utah Mammoth tonight for their second home matchup.
During the morning skate, it was announced by Ben Pope that
Spencer Knight is going to be in the starter's crease for the game this evening.
This is after a split set for the first two games. Knight opened up the season against the Florida Panthers, and then
Arvid Soderblom got the call against Boston.
Knight got the call against the Canadiens for the home opener on Saturday and will get it again tonight for the Hawks' first official game ever vs. the Mammoth (not called Hockey Club anymore), ending the 50/50 split.
It shouldn't be 50/50 in the first place, anyhow. It should be more of a 65/35 or a 70/30 split-Knight has proved that he can be your man and that he is the starter.
Spencer Knight's offseason molded him into an NHL starter
Knight spoke about his training to help him transition into the starting goaltender role over the summer for the first time since he was backing up
Sergei Bobrovsky during his tenure with Florida. When the season gets old, we'll see how he handles the heavier workload.
Knight, through three games, has a .908 SV% and a 3.03 GAA and has kept the Blackhawks in many games this season, especially the Panthers one. Coming off a three-year contract extension, this is exactly what you want to see from him early on.
His last big save was against the Canadiens when he stopped a point-blank shot from
Nick Suzuki to keep the game tied at two.
Hopefully, Spencer hasn't put any of the losses or blame on himself, because he's been a big bright spot, and fans expect another big game from him tonight against Utah.
