The Chicago Blackhawks acquired goal-scoring forward Lynn Powis from the Atlanta Flames, for Mike Baumgarter, on this day, August 30, 1973.
The Chicago Blackhawks attempted to improve their standings in the NHL on this day, which is why they traded Mike Baumgartner, a prospect.
They would acquire Lynn Powis, who was originally a forward from the Atlanta Flames.
Powis, the other piece in the deal, was originally drafted 68th overall in the 6th round of the 1968 NHL Draft by the Montreal Canadiens.
He'd play for the Blackhawks for a season, with a total of 57 GP, scoring 21 points (8-13).
He'd never win the ultimate prize in the NHL, and would later play for the Kansas City Scouts in 1974-75.
He'd never return to the NHL afterwards, and would win his hardware in the rebel WHA with the Winnipeg Jets at the time.
He'd later leave North America after his short, but successful stint in the WHA, and head to Germany playing for Duisburg SC and Fussen EV.
Mike Baumgartner's Fate in the NHL
Mike Baumgartner is more accurately represented in this trade as a prospect.
He'd play for the Dallas Blackhawks in the CHL and would win hardware with the team before his trade to the Atlanta Flames.
Despite his success, he'd never be promoted to the NHL until the 1974-75 season, playing for the now-defunct Kansas City Scouts.
He'd go scoreless in 17 games with a -9 and would fall back into the minors afterwards.
This trade bore fruit for neither party, as Lynn Powis would prove to be successful later in the WHA and never again in North America.
