Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson undergoes significant open-heart surgery
Kyle Davidson, the General Manager of the Chicago Blackhawks, is fully committed to hockey-and his health, after a recent open-heart procedure that went under the radar.
A recent episode of "Every Shift" showed him going through a major heart surgery during the 4 Nations Face-Off Break in the NHL season.
This wasn't the usual All-Star Break 'vacation'.
Davidson had a heart operation to fix something called a pulmonary valve.
This valve is one of four in your heart that controls how blood flows.
It sits between the lower right part of the heart and the artery that carries blood to the lungs. If this valve isn't working right, it's a big deal but thankfully, they caught it in time.
Even while dealing with this serious surgery, Kyle was busy working.
Before and after the procedure, he negotiated a trade with
the Florida Panthers to bring goalie
Spencer Knight to the Blackhawks, according to Mario Tirabassi from CHGO Sports.
Kyle Davidson's health condition revealed
He was born with a heart condition called Tetralogy of Fallot.
He'd known for years that he'd eventually need open heart surgery to fix it.
Five years after first facing this reality, he decided the NHL pause was the perfect time to get it done.
Open heart surgery is scary for anyone, and behind-the-scenes footage showed how tense it was for his wife and young daughter as they supported him through it.
Kyle made it through the surgery and is doing much better now. He's healthier, happier, and back to focusing on his family and his job as the Blackhawks' GM.
Trading
Seth Jones was a huge win for the Blackhawks, but more importantly, Kyle now has a longer, healthier life ahead to spend with his family as a husband and father.
