Blackhawks forward Connor Bedard finds out he's been dethroned as the face of Chicago sports
The Blackhawks forward Connor Bedard seems to have been dethroned as Chicago's top sports star, with another athlete making massive strides in baseball.
Fans remember players, but most of all, they remember champions. Bedard has been showing great promise in his first two years in the NHL. However, he hasn't been able to bring his team to the next level yet.
A new report suggested that another athlete could be Chicago's biggest sports star: Pete Crow-Armstrong.
The Cubs' young outfielder is off to a very hot start in July, racking up four hits in eight at-bats over two wins against the Guardians at Wrigley.
However, it's not his performances as much as his character and personality that gain fans' attention.
This is the first time since 1936 that a pair of Cubs outfielders are starting an All-Star Game together, and PCA's right at the center of it. He's already talking about how he can't wait to see which other teammates get the nod. That's the kind of team-first, people-first attitude that plays well around here.
Meanwhile, Bedard is still trying to find his footing off the ice. Nobody's knocking his talent - he's as skilled as they come - but he doesn't exactly light up when the cameras are on. It's awkward at times.
Compare that to Crow-Armstrong, who looks like he was built for this kind of attention, cracking smiles and genuinely enjoying the ride.
So for now, it feels like Chicago's attention has shifted. Bedard's still the future of hockey in this town, but the city's heart? That's leaning toward the kid at Wrigley who can hit, joke around, and make a packed ballpark feel like it's part of his story.
