Well, it looks like they're knocking one option off the list, as they plan to send Arvid Soderblom down to the Rockford Icehogs of the AHL, according to NHL Insider Ben Pope.
Arvid Soderblom was the main talking point of last season, but not for a good reason. Soderblom had a 3.92 GAA with a .880 SV% last season. He really struggled, and the team just didn't look comfortable with him in between the posts, and looked a lot more comfortable when Petr Mrazek was back there. Soderblom has a career 7-34 win-loss record with a 3.84 and .883 SV%.
It just wasn't working out with Soderblom. He didn't just have one weakness. He took breaks here and there to work with the goaltending coach Jimmy Weeks but just didn't show any improvement. At some point, enough is enough, and Davidson and his crew said that and are sending him back down to Rockford. The win loss record is what really does him in though, as he participated in 27 games and only won five last season. Even when he had good starts, which were rare, he fell apart late.
The 25-year-old still has time to develop though, and maybe another stint in the AHL could do him well. He just has to go back to the drawing board and figure it out, and that's what the AHL is for. However, at the age of 25, the Swedish goalie needs to find himself soon.
