The Chicago Blackhawks, who are in the process of moving forward in their rebuild, will be saying "goodbye" to former 11th OA pick Victor Soderstrom, Kyle Davidson acquired in the Shea Weber trade.
The Chicago Blackhawks' rebuild continues during the offseason, as major personnel changes will be made.
One of those will be the Blackhawks cutting ties with Victor Soderstrom, a former 11th OA pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.
The Blackhawks would acquire Aku Raty, Shea Weber, and Victor Soderstrom in exchange for a 5th-round pick (2026) with the Utah Mammoth.
According to Scott Powers of The Athletic, the Chicago Blackhawks will not be giving Soderstrom a new contract.
Soderstrom will enter the 2025 free agency as an RFA, but with no qualifying offer, he can find a new contract wherever he wishes, as the Blackhawks will not be retaining his rights.
The Blackhawks aren't expected to sign defenseman Victor Söderström, whose rights they acquired from the Utah Mammoth at the trade deadline in March. The Blackhawks were unsure whether they'd be able to sign Söderström, but they thought it was worth exploring as part of the multi-player trade.
Soderstrom has played the majority of the 2024-25 season in Sweden's SHL with Brynas IF, scoring 37 points (9-28) in 49 games.
Soderstrom was a failed attempt to find a way to rejuvenate talent that hadn't found a way to crack a full-time NHL lineup before.
Soderstrom's career totals in the NHL? 53 games played, 11 points (1-10) and 30 PIMs.
