2 years removed from the selection of Connor Bedard in the NHL draft, 2025 is chock full of talent that the Blackhawks could utilize, including Swedish forward Anton Frondell.
The next
NHL Draft is set to take place in Los Angeles, and the 2025 Draft is chock-full of desirable talent for rebuilding teams like the Blackhawks.
They could win a spot in the top five with their current odds. But given that the lottery isn't guaranteed, they could still end up selecting lower in the draft.
In order to keep the lineup filled with talent that they could surround Connor Bedard with, they should look to Sweden for a potential choice in 2025. That is if they cannot select Michael Misa, an OHL forward who is projected to go first overall.
That would be towering Swedish forward, Anton Frondell.
At 6', 198 lbs, he could add some size to the top-six in the
Blackhawks organization. He's been projected as a top-five pick in this year's draft, and if GM Kyle Davidson has done his homework, be another consideration in lieu of failing to draft their "guy".
His stock fell after a knee injury, which kept him from being selected by Sweden during the last World Junior Championships. He'd struggle in Allsvenskan, the second-best hockey league in Sweden, and had fallen in terms of expectations of play.
Upon return from injury, we'd see him score at nearly a point-per-game pace with Djurgardens IF in Allsvenskan, and would produce 25 points in 29 games, ending a .86 point per game total for the year. He'd make use of his shortened time on ice during the playoffs to score 7 points in 15 games, an efficient forward.
What sets him apart is his two-way playing capabilities, which are skills that GMs want from any responsible forward.
He plays with a physicality that can push opponents off the puck. His shot is exceptional and could make him a dangerous player in the offensive zone.
According to The Athletic's Scott Powers, the
Blackhawks have had their eyes on the Swedish centerman, and he currently plays with former Blackhawks Stanley Cup champion Marcus Kuger in Djurgarden IF.
Frondell may be the pick of GM Kyle Davidson and the Blackhawks should their pick fall outside of the top-two selections int he draft.
