Some Canadian fans began protesting U.S. policy changes and tariffs imposed by Donald Trump by booing the U.S. national anthem during games, getting their 'payback on Canadians'.
After Kane's comments on the anthem controversy, Brad Marchand who recently appeared on the 'What Chaos' podcast was asked a question involving it, and he let the truth be told.
"The anthems are about respect, and a way to acknowledge the efforts of our veterans," Marchand said. "It's why we can play hockey in peace and freedom."
Marchand shies away from political standpoint, much like Auston Matthews
«We're here to play hockey, not go around politicking.»
Which sounds very similar to Matthew's' response, but the Leafs captain didn't comment on the disrespectful aspect.
Matthews refused to answer the question and chose to not defend his countries heritage and anthem, Marchand on the other hand stood right up, have a look:
Despite the different outlooks on the actions by Canadian fans, which lead to retaliation by American fans, we hope anthems can go back to being well respected in the near future.
