Ottawa Senators Fans Boo U.S. National Anthem: Here's Why
Ottawa Senators Crowd Sparks Major Controversy With Loud Boos During U.S. Anthem
Saturday night's game between the Minnesota Wild and Ottawa Senators took an unexpected turn and it has begun trending in the media-not because of the play on the ice, but because of the crowd.
As the American and Canadian national anthems played, part of the Ottawa crowd broke tradition by singing along, loudly booing during the U.S. anthem.
The noise wasn't quiet also; it lasted through most of the anthem, making it clear this wasn't just a handful of fans, it was thousands!
Videos of the incident are making the rounds on social media, have a look:
Loud booing at the end of the Star Spangled Banner as well.
Why did Canadian hockey fans boo the US National Anthem?
Some Canadians are frustrated over recent U.S. policies, including 'tariffs' imposed by president Donald Trump.
The American players on the ice had nothing to do with those decisions, nor did the singer performing the anthem. It had to be an uncomfortable moment for them.
**UPDATE** It happened again...
Let's hope we see sportsmanship in Canada back again soon.
