Russia and Belarus have been hit with a major blow in the world of international ice hockey. The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has banned both countries from participating in IIHF competitions until at least 2025. The decision comes after a long-standing investigation by the IIHF into claims of political interference in the governance of the sport in the two countries.

The ban means that Russia and Belarus will not be able to compete in any IIHF tournaments, including the upcoming World Championships, which are set to take place in Latvia in May. The IIHF has stated that it will review the situation again in in the near future to determine if the ban will be lifted or extended.

The news has been met with disappointment from both Russian and Belarusian hockey fans and officials. However, the IIHF has made it clear that it will not tolerate any form of political interference in the governance of the sport, and that the ban is a necessary measure to protect the integrity and independence of international ice hockey.
