Over the past 48 hours, Askarov told the predators that he has requested a trade from the team after general manager Barry Trotz had signed starting goaltender Juuse Saros to a new long-term extension. The Predators also acquired Scott Wedgewood who will become the backup and potentially work as tandem with Saros.
Many pundits in the league feel that Askarov is ready for a full time NHL gig and with the Blackhawks rebuilding their team, acquiring this talent would accelerate their rebuild it secured their goaltending for years.
Askarov had played two games with the Nashville Predators last year and he held a goals against average of 1.47 and a save percentage of .943. The bulk of his season was spent with the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL where he played 44 games, with the goals against average of 2.39 and a save percentage of .911. His record was 30-13-1.
It remains to be seen on what Davidson would need to give to acquire the starting talent, but it appears something is brewing between both teams.
