The New York Rangers recent firing of head coach Peter Laviolette has now tied them to a controversial candidate.

The majority of contending-built teams are in the midst of a round-1 playoff series in search of a Stanley Cup, but that's not the case for the New York Rangers this season.
General manager Chris Drury swiftly took action by firing Peter Laviolette on the day that the playoffs kicked off, and now they are tied to a controversial former NHL head coach.
Joel Quenneville, who won three Stanley Cups with the Chicago Blackhawks is now linked to their head coaching job.
A firing of Peter Laviolette recent report from NYR reporter Vince Z. Mercogliano listed several candidates that he's hearing being tied to their head coaching search and spilt the report on Quenneville.
My hunch is no, but Quenneville is a name that continues to come up when I ask around. That doesn't necessarily mean the Rangers would do it, but multiple sources indicated that 66-year-old badly wants an opportunity and views New York as a coveted landing spot. Said Mercogliano

The 66-year old head coach had one of the most impressive resumes and was well respected throughout the NHL before ultimately being forced to resign.
A statement released by the NHL on July 1st of 2024 revealed that he was reinstated and allowed to make a return.
«While it is clear that, at the time, their responses were unacceptable, each of these three individuals has acknowledged that and used his time away from the game to engage in activities which, not only demonstrate sincere remorse for what happened, but also evidence greater awareness of the responsibilities that all NHL personnel have, particularly personnel who are in positions of leadership.

Quenneville's coaching search has not gone in his favor, but he is reportedly over the moon about potentially joining the New York Rangers.
"Multiple sources indicated that 66-year-old badly wants an opportunity and views New York as a coveted landing spot."
Rangers fans, on the other hand are opposed to the idea to say the least.
Alongside Quenneville, John Tortorella is also listed as a candidate, which sure makes things interesting in the Big Apple.
