Veteran winger Corey Perry was subject to a mass amount of criticism due to locker-room footage found from Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
The Stanley Cup Finals was an emotional series, depending on which team you were hoping would win. Some NHL fans were disappointed that the Panthers re-entered the series and prevented a reverse sweep, but of course, the Oilers themselves were of course dismayed by the outcome.
As the celebration in the Panthers locker room, the Oilers team sat in silence, in their solitude briefly, before putting away their uniforms.
The feelings were palpable in that video, as the team obviously had to sit with their own disappointment. NHL fans wouldn't relent, as of course fans would harangue Corey Perry and blame him for continuing the "Stanley Cup curse" he is supposed to be carrying.
Having won only one Stanley Cup in 2007, despite five total trips in his career to the Finals has made him the butt of the joke yet again.
While it seems to be all coincidental, NHL fans are exploiting a rough moment in Oilers history to target Corey Perry. That being said no Oilers players deserve this kind of derision, but they used it as an opportunity to do so anyway.
The Stanley Cup is the ultimate prize for NHLers and this loss will sting for a long time, as missing the Cup by a goal is such a small margin they will undoubtedly relive the moment. A tragedy in every sense.
Hopefully, in 2024-2025 the Oilers and Perry can find a way to win it.
