Chicago officially getting an opportunity at a 2nd pro hockey franchise: Date confirmed
Per NHL analyst David Pagnotta, the city of Chicago will be considered for a Professional Women's Hockey Team, which would be the 2nd pro hockey team in town behind the Blackhawks.
The Chicago Blackhawks are the only professional hockey team in Chicago, but that could soon change.
Per NHL analyst David Pagnotta, Chicago could be in the running to get a PWHL franchise, as they will host a game at some point this year as part of the PWHL Takeover Tour.
Per sources, Detroit will be back to host a game as part of this season's the PWHL Takeover Tour, while Chicago will also be part of the mix for the first time hosting in 2025-26. There are additional cities, as well.
The PWHL currently has 8 total teams, with more potentially on the way
Currently, the PWHL has 8 teams: the Montreal Victoire, Ottawa Charge, Toronto Sceptres, Boston Fleet, Minnesota Frost, and New York Sirens. There are also 2 expansion teams coming, located in Seattle and Vancouver.
Last year, the PWHL takeover tour included stops in Buffalo, Denver, Detroit, Raleigh, St. Louis, Seattle, Vancouver, and Quebec City.
Per Amy Scheer, PWHL Senior Vice President of Business Operations, the PWHL Takeover tour
is a prime way to let the league showcase itself to fans across the country.
Bringing PWHL games to fans across both countries is a natural next step as we continue building our audience. The PWHL Takeover Tour lets us showcase our game and exceptional athletes across a wider North American footprintan important move for our business as we consider expansion.
