A Major development in the firings of head coach Joe Sacco and Anders Sorensen
Are the Boston Bruins going to make another significant move behind the bench?
Earlier this season, the Boston Bruins made a bold move when they fired former head coach Jim Montgomery and replaced him with current intern head coach, Joe Sacco.
After this coaching change, the Bruins standings increased and the team started to excel. Unfortunately, the team has recently begun to struggle immensely once again.
This Original Six club are sitting at a 20-19-5 record, with six losses in a row. With five extra games played by the Bruins, they have still fallen behind the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Atlantic Division standings.
Tampa Bay currently has 49 points for the season thus far, as the Boston Bruins are at 47 points.
One thing the Boston Bruins should take into consideration before playoff time is that their rivals, Tampa Bay, currently have five games in hand ahead of them, which means change is needed now.
Recent reports state that the former NHL player, turned head coach, Joe Sacco, is on the hot seat.
The Bruins may have hit the panic button too fast in the hiring of Joe Sacco
The same day that
Jim Montgomery was fired , the Bruins named Joe Sacco their intern head coach. Perhaps general manager Don Sweeney should have started a proper job search, in hopes to bring in a more experienced face to represent their $2.7 billion franchise.
Sacco is next on the chop block in Boston, and Gerald Gallant would be a great alternative for the Bruins.
This would leave Sacco jobless, and this is where the Chicago Blackhawks come into play, who are still in search for a full-time head coach.
Current bench boss Anders Sorensen has done mediocre in the little time he has been coach of the Blackhawks, but there are certainly issues that we addressed
here .
Oddly enough, Anders Sorensen coached multiple Boston Bruins stars in the past, including
David Pastrnak, their leading goal scorer.
A big enough relationship has developed between the two (Pastrnak and Sorensen), to the point that Pastrnak called Blackhawks captain
Nick Foligno's phone, when Sorensen was hired, to let him know that Nick will 'love' having him behind the bench.
With Sacco being a more developmental coach, the Blackhawks could certainly make more use of him in their rebuilding phase than the Bruins could in their 'win now' mode, as they are in search for a cup.
Could we see a coaching swap in the next couple of weeks?
