Concerning news out of the Detroit Red Wings organization

It was reported earlier today by general manager Steve Yzerman the Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin had undergone surgery to repair an upper body injury.

He sustained his injury during the season which prevented him from going to the world hockey championship. Yzerman also said that he has been training but he's not skating or shooting pucks but expects him to be at camp in September.

«I expect he's training,» Yzerman said when he met with media to discuss next week's NHL draft. «I don't think he's skating or shooting pucks yet, but I expect him to be 100 percent by training camp.»

Larkin has had a shortened season this year as he only played 68 games, scoring 33 goals with 36 assists for 69 points and was a + 5 with 39 penalty minutes. The 27 year old captain also averaged 20 minutes and 10 seconds of ice time throughout the year.

«He had an injury, an upper-body injury that he was dealing with late in the season that we didn't really think a lot about at the time,» Yzerman said. «And then the end of the season, we do all of our testing and they get whatever scans and x-rays and things. He had to address that with I don't want to call it minor surgery, but he had to have surgery.»

The Red Wings had a rollercoaster year especially at the end of the season where the team just came up short to making the playoffs on game 82. With a healthy Larkin, the Red Wings should contend for a playoff spot again next year.
