The New York Rangers put a former Stanley Cup champion, Nick Bonino, on waivers today, which was surprising news for many NHL fans.

Bonino had been picked up by the Rangers during the off-season and had signed a 1-year contract with the team for $880K.

According to NHL insider Arthur Staple, the Rangers have placed the veteran on waivers for re-assignment to the American Hockey League today.

Bonino has played 45 games this season, but he hasn't been producing as much as the Rangers would have liked, with only 1 goal and 4 assists, for a total of 5 points.

In addition to Bonino, two other players were also placed on waivers today: Adam Ruzicka and Nick DeSimone.

Ruzicka, who played 114 NHL games for the Calgary Flames, will now join the Arizona Coyotes.

DeSimone, who played 27 NHL games for the Flames, will now play for the New Jersey Devils.

Ruzicka, 24, posted 14 goals and 26 assists for a total of 40 points in his career with the Flames.

He will now find a new home to play in Arizona's rebuild. DeSimone, 29, also has a career total of 5 points, with 1 goal and 4 assists in 27 NHL games played.
