New Jersey Devils Deliver Crushing Update on Star Jack Hughes After Crash Into Boards
It was a scary scene in Las Vegas on the ice tonight, as top New Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes left the game after crashing into the boards.
Late in the 3rd period, the Devils lost top forward Jack Hughes to what appeared to be a shoulder injury. He crashed into the boards after breaking in on a 2-on-1 rush but getting tripped from behind by Vegas forward
Jack Eichel.
Hughes skated slowly back toward the Devils bench clutching his shoulder and bent down at the waist before being attended to by team medical staff on the bench and making his way down the tunnel toward the dressing room - and yet, there was no penalty on the play.
Adding insult to injury, the Devils also lost head coach Sheldon Keefe after he was thrown out of the game for barking at the officials for the lack of a penalty called on Eichel for his actions that resulted in Hughes' injury.

Keefe also issued an update, and the comments signal that it is likely long-term.
Keefe could very well be facing further disciplinary action from the NHL for what he may have said to the officials that resulted in his ejection.
Ironically, he and Eichel suited up as teammates for the American in the Four Nations Faceoff last month; they both finished in 2nd place to Canada. Hughes had a single assist in 4 games played.
